Maine Venture Fund is proud to introduce our newest portfolio company, Alakazam!

Alakazam, based in Portland, Maine, is the premier on-demand Immersive Web platform for the creation of virtual worlds, 3D websites and event environments. The company, formerly Standard Magic, LLC, plans to launch a SaaS offering on February 1st and is poised with the infrastructure, logistics, and technology to accommodate the rapidly growing demand for Immersive Web tools and hosting. Maine Venture Fund recently led a pre-seed investment round that positions the company to execute on those plans.

The company offers a tool for both individuals, those tech-curious early adaptors and forward-thinking hobbyists - "Alakazam Pro", and businesses, larger projects, and groups - "Alakazam Enterprise” starting at $99. This platform allows users access to a full library of virtual world templates and full-body avatars to quickly design, build and inhabit space in the immersive web. Users can access Alakazam in a 3D environment through a headset or engage on a 2D screen, inside a web browser, making it one of the most accessible and scalable platforms to emerge onto this new frontier.

Liam Sullivan, Alakazam Founder & CEO, commented, “Our team is composed of industry pioneers and leaders who have been at the forefront of the 3D space for the last decade. We have seen first-hand the incredible capabilities of the Immersive Web on some extremely complicated, sophisticated, and high-dollar value projects. My dream has been to find a way to democratize this formerly out-of-reach and expensive technology to make it accessible and inclusive to all. Today this dream is being realized, we are ready to open the doors and welcome all into this new world.”

Sullivan started Alakazam with the original name ‘Standard Magic’ in 2019, and has bootstrapped the company to date. Prior to Standard Magic, Sullivan participated in a number of XR startups, including at Big Room Studios in Portland where he was part of the braintrust that started Yarn Corporation.“We’re excited to enter into the next chapter of growth for Alakazam, and are immeasurably grateful for the support provided by Maine Venture Fund. We are constantly inspired and encouraged by the budding entrepreneurial ecosystem here in our backyard, and are proud to influence, support and contribute to the growing STEM industries here in Maine.”said Sullivan.

Alakazam team: welcome to the Maine Venture Fund portfolio!
