Maine Venture Fund is proud to welcome our newest Maine-based portfolio company, Tanbark Molded Fiber Products

Tanbark is designing sustainable, molded fiber packaging that will displace plastic alternatives. While some packaging product brands today tout themselves as 100% compostable, most are only compostable in a commercial-grade composting facility, meaning that they do not actually get properly composted (and break down properly). And while the molded fiber technology exists in commodity form - think paper plates - there is no company producing high-end, custom designs at lower volume. Therefore, Tanbark’s solution will represent the first truly compostable packaging option for small and medium businesses. And for those without access to composting, Tanbark’s product is easily recyclable, unlike plastic, 95% of which does not get recycled. This is a game-changing option for companies seeking to minimize the waste of their supply chain and strengthen trust and loyalty with their end customers.

Tanbark’s office is located in Portland, while their production facility is located in Saco. The investment round in which Maine Venture Fund participated will allow the company to complete the build-out of their manufacturing line in Saco and begin shipping to customers in October.
