Board Member Spotlight - Charlotte Mace
Our seventh feature in the Board Member Spotlights Series!
We will introduce one of our Board members to share a little bit more about their experience and the perspective they bring to Maine Venture Fund.
The MVF Board is made up of 11 members, 10 appointed by the Governor and one ex officio member representing DECD. Each person brings specific expertise that enables MVF to thoughtfully evaluate the best way to support Maine companies. The MVF Board is responsible for making all investment decisions.
This installment features Charlotte Mace.

Can you share a little bit about your professional experience?
I have previous experience at both for-profit and not-for-profit organizations. I have mostly worked in consulting, but I also led a manufacturing trade association called Biobased Maine, which promoted the growth of Maine’s small yet growing biobased manufacturing industry. Currently, as Director of the Office of Business Development at the Maine Department of Economic & Community Development, I work with both businesses and communities to help them grow. I also serve as the State Program Manager for the Northern Border Regional Commission.
What is a professional accomplishment you are most proud of?
Launching selectmainesites.com for the State of Maine – it’s an interactive database that investors and companies can use to identify industrial properties in Maine available for investment or redevelopment. I am also proud of my staff at the Office of Business Development. We work every day to help Maine businesses with their needs, and while it can be challenging, it is often quite rewarding.
What is a highlight about living in Maine?
Maine is great if you like water – so that’s definitely a highlight for me. We have beautiful lakes and ponds and of course there is the coast, too! But I grew up inland, and so my favorite water is Sebago Lake.
Can you share one thing you always consider in the diligence process for companies pursuing investment from MVF?
I look at the team. There is always someone with the vision or the technical knowledge. In addition, I look to see if there is someone who is focused on operations and someone else who is good with people and managing them.
How do you recharge?
Spending time with my family (husband, three boys, and a black lab) and exercising.
